The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (sometimes called The Wizard of Oz) is a childrens' book. It was written by L. Frank Baum. The book was first published by the George M. Hill Company on 17 May 1900. The first edition has pictures drawn by W. W. Denslow. The story is about a little girl named Dorothy. She is swept away from her home in Kansas by a storm. She lands in a magical place called Oz. She makes friends with a scarecrow, a tin woodman, and a cowardly lion. She meets good witches and bad witches. The Wizard of Oz finds a way for Dorothy to go home. Dorothy finds out that Oz is a human who was swept away in a balloon. Soon she goes back to her home in Kansas.
